Amsterdam is a city that seems to have figured out how to take life seriously without taking itself too seriously. There are canals that look like they were designed for the sole purpose of making you late, bicycles with more authority than most automobiles, and centuries-old buildings that lean just enough to suggest they’ve heard some stories. It’s a place for getting lost on purpose, lingering over a drink you didn’t plan to order, and discovering that the best part of the day is often the bit you never intended to do. Amsterdam doesn’t need to impress you. It just gets on with being Amsterdam, which is rather impressive in itself.
